The Educator's Guide to Symphony of a City was written by Karen Werner, a Sociology PhD candidate at Brandeis, in order to encourage
learners to actively engage with the project through viewings, on-line discussion and at the Web site. Please inform fellow educators and colleagues about this project. We hope to include and reach out to as many people as possible. |

The Symphony of a City Learning/Teaching Resource Guide includes:
specific information on Boston's neighborhoods and the varied ways people live here |
a section on the politics of vision and visibility |
exercises exploring media literacy and the politics of representation |
questions about the uses and potential of new technology to further democratize society |
ideas exploring symphony as a metaphor: as a symphony requires collaboration, it follows that the whole is greater than its parts |
suggestions for future reading and research |
